The Institution of Marriage
The Institution of Marriage
When God noted that man was lonely, it became a profound turning
point in the creation account. For the first time, God declared that something
was not good. Not because of a flaw in creation, but because man was alone,
lacking the fellowship he was created to enjoy. God is a relational God, and man
was formed in His image. Man reflects God’s relational nature, Father, Son, and
Holy Spirit in perfect fellowship. As God desires communion with man, man was
made to live in communion and not in isolation.
And
the Lord God said, “It is not good that man should be alone; I will make him a
helper comparable to him. ... (Genesis 2:18-23).
God created a helper comparable to him, in Hebrew; ezer kenegdo, a helper fit for him,
someone to complement him. This is not about subordination, but partnership and
strength. God did not make Eve as an afterthought, but as a crown of creation,
formed with intention and beauty. Eve was not made from dust like Adam, but
from his side, symbolizing closeness and unity.
The myth that men have one rib less is not true.
Nonetheless, we know the bride of Christ is a product of the precious blood
from the side of Christ. Both men and women are the same, yet different.
Husbands,
likewise, dwell with them with understanding, giving honor to the wife, as to
the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life, that your
prayers may not be hindered (1 Peter 3:7).
It is not good for man to be alone applies beyond marriage;
man was created with the family, church, friendship, and Kingdom fellowship in
the mind of God. Jesus came to restore what was broken by sin by creating a new
family where everyone belongs and no one walks alone. Man was created in the
image of a relational God to love, to serve, to share life.
The Rib Myth
Some have wrongly believed that because God took a rib from
Adam, men have one rib less. This is not true; Rib count is genetically
determined; men and women have 24 ribs (12 pairs). The Bride of Christ, born
from His side, where the soldier pierced His side with a spear, and immediately
blood and water came out (John 19:34). Just as Eve came from Adam’s side, so
the Church (the Bride of Christ) comes from Christ’s pierced side. The blood
and water represent atonement (blood) and cleansing/new birth (water). The
Church is birthed not from dust, but from the sacrificial love of Jesus.
The Marriage Institution
Marriage is God’s idea, not man's creation or a cultural
aspect; it is meant to be a lifelong covenant and not just a romantic contract.
The purpose of marriage is companionship, mirroring the loving fellowship
within the Trinity. A husband and wife are supposed to be fruitful, multiply,
fill the earth, and subdue it.
Therefore
a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they
shall become one flesh (Genesis 2:24).
Are men and women equal? You cannot equate people; one can
only equate mass, lengths, distances. ... Men are all unique. Marriage is an
institution created by God and therefore is holy (Genesis 2:24)., Jesus
confirmed it in Matthew 19:5 and Paul blessed it (Ephesians 5:31).
Misuse of sex
Sexual immorality, including adultery, fornication, and all
forms of impurity, is detestable in the sight of God and brings spiritual
consequences. Scripture warns of the seriousness of sexual immorality.
Or
do you not know that he who is joined to a harlot is one body with her? For
“the two,” He says, “shall become one flesh (1 Corinthians 6:16).
